Olive Academies (OA) was created by a small number of like-minded individuals in 2013; a group who were determined to improve opportunities for young people struggling to succeed in mainstream education. Arwyn Thomas, OA’s Chief Operating Officer, was one of that original group who has been instrumental in developing the trust – on our journey from first discussions about improving learning opportunities for vulnerable young people in England, to the growth of an established multi-academy trust specialising in alternative provision.
Arwyn has been planning for some time to retire at the end of 2018. Olive Academies is indebted to Arwyn for his wise counsel, and his great skill and tenacity in helping the trust develop and take on three complex alternative provision projects over the last few years.
There is no doubt that Olive Academies would not be in the place it is today without his guidance and expertise. He has been a much valued strategic leader at Olive Academies and will be sorely missed by all who have worked with him.
With Arwyn’s retirement plans in mind Olive Academies is pleased to announce the following changes to our trust team which will be in place from 1st January 2019. Adam Tedesco has been appointed Director of Operations. Adam has over 10 years’ experience as a senior leader and school improvement consultant working in some of the most challenging inner city schools. He was worked with us at Olive Academies over the last few years, demonstrating his expertise in all forms of inclusive practice and school leadership.
Jo Gillman will be also taking on broader responsibilities across the trust as our Director of Finance and Compliance. Eileen Hinds will continue in her role as Director of Academy Standards and Effectiveness and Mark Vickers continues to lead the trust as Chief Executive.
All at Olive Academies will continue to work closely together to ensure that the trust continues to go from strength to strength – delivering inspiring, ambitious and purposeful learning opportunities for all our students. All at Olive Academies wish Arwyn a very happy and successful retirement.
