Tony Machin
Executive Headteacher - Havering and Tunbridge Wells
Tony is a skilled executive headteacher, providing support and guidance to academy leaders and their teams to drive continued improvement, strengthen partnerships and deliver positive outcomes for young people.
Under his leadership, OA-Havering has significantly expanded its reach and impact, including securing new opportunities for EHCP students to access longer-term placements, alongside its exemplary provision for young people unable to attend mainstream school.
Since overseeing the transfer of OA-Tunbridge Wells into the trust, Tony has established a purposeful curriculum and is leading the academy forward in line with the Olive ethos. His professional goal is to strengthen the impact of the Olive provisions which he oversees, ensuring every child has access to the opportunities they deserve.
Passionate about people, Tony is committed to creating positive, professional working environments where staff feel supported, developed and valued. He draws on his background in sport to bring values of teamwork and leadership into his practice, and his 20 years of experience in mainstream education, particularly in pastoral work and inclusion, have shaped his expertise in alternative provision.
Beyond his academy leadership, Tony plays an active role in shaping wider strategy. He has worked extensively with local authorities to build effective partnerships and currently sits on the London Borough of Havering SEND & Alternative Provision Improvement Board, ensuring Olive’s values are represented at a strategic level.
